JOB DESCRIPTION: Medical Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Allergy Department
REPORTS TO: Charge Nurse
REQUIREMENTS: The applicant will be a Medical Assistant that has graduated from an accredited program with at least one year of clinical experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- - Provide direct clinical care to Allergy Department patients in a professional and courteous manner.
- - Conduct basic assessment of patients, including: measuring and recording of vital signs, auscultation of lung sounds, and patient questioning.
- - Provide patient education regarding Allergy Department services offered: testing, types of immunotherapy, potential complications/reactions, use of epinephrine auto-injector, biologic injections and medications.
- - Perform percutaneous and intradermal allergy testing on patients per Provider orders. Document appropriately and concurrently in patient EMR system.
- - Perform venipuncture and process specimen for allergy tests as requested by Provider.
- - Recognize and assist in treating any allergic reactions related to patient testing and/or immunotherapy and document per protocol.
- - Prepare allergy serum formula as per patient testing results and document in EMR.
- - Provide allergy injections to allergy patients as per EVENTS policy. Recognize when patient is ineligible for injection and educate patient accordingly.
- - Prepare and administer biologic injections to allergy patients per EVENTS policy/procedure.
- - Maintain a clean and productive work area for team and patients.
- - Assists with daily department duties of cleaning, restocking, ordering supplies, expired vials, etc.
